चन्द्रप्रज्ञ [Chandrapragyan]
35cm x 35cm
ink, milk, limestone, salt, water, cotton, rubber tree
This artwork, Chandrapragyan, from the Sanskrit चन्द्रप्रज्ञ [Moon Wisdom], along with Lakshmi, the third moon of the Helstrom solar system, are a tribute to the successful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 mission by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on August 23, 2023. I happened to be creating these moons in my art studio when the news broke during this momentous occasion. In honor and celebration of India’s astronomical achievement I named these 2 moons after the successful mission to send the Pragyan Rover to the moon [Chandra is Sanskrit for ‘Moon’, Pragyan is Sanskrit for ‘Wisdom’] The second moon I named Lakshmi after the Hindi diety of wealth and prosperity. You can see the artwork Lakshmi here:
🌕 Congratulations to India’s space program! 🇮🇳🚀🙌🙌🙌
The collection, Sanctuary: After Earth, is a parable of a new world that humanity needs to adapt to, after destroying the planet Earth. The setting is the Planet Helstrom, and is inspired by philosophy and legends of wisdom from around the world.
The astronomy for the creative storytelling took years to build. In the [mostly] accurate model of the solar system, the planet Helstrom is orbited by three moons: Chandrapragyan, Lakshmi, and Mahina.
