This artwork, Lakshmi, (the Hindu goddess of joy and prosperity) along with the artwork Chandrapragyan (from the Sanskrit चन्द्रप्रज्ञ [Moon Wisdom]), are a tribute to the successful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 mission by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on August 23, 2023. I happened to be creating these moons in my art studio when the news broke during this momentous occasion. In honor and celebration of India’s astronomical achievement I named these 2 moons after the successful mission to send the Pragyan Rover to the moon [Chandra is Sanskrit for ‘Moon’, Pragyan is Sanskrit for ‘Wisdom’]. You can see the artwork Chandrapragyan here:

🌕 Congratulations to India’s space program! 🇮🇳🚀🙌🙌🙌

The collection, Sanctuary: After Earth, is a parable of a new world that humanity needs to adapt to, after destroying the planet Earth. The setting is the Planet Helstrom, and is inspired by philosophy and legends of wisdom from around the world.

The astronomy for the creative storytelling took years to build. In the [mostly] accurate model of the solar system, the planet Helstrom is orbited by three moons: Chandrapragyan, Lakshmi, and Mahina.
