The symbol of the guillotine haunts revolutionary history. An icon of both an illusionary hope and a brutal reality. This is the symbol that started my philosophical journey into socioeconomic history and the consequences of a culture giving in to a mob mentality.
This historic event was the beginning of modern democracy. We still have a long way to go to reach social and economic equity, but it was the French people that rose up against the torment of oligarchy and paved the way.
