One of a kind artwork created exclusively for the multimedia art exhibition, Sanctuary: A New Earth, displayed in Hồ Chí Minh City, Vietnam from September 9 – 16, 2023.
Inspired by love of the night sky and the beauty and poetry of Sanskrit.
आकाशगंगा
The Sanskit for Milky Way is pronounced ‘Akash Ganga’. It means “sky river”.
In the ancient Hindu text, the Rigveda, the deity Aryaman is described as the protector of mares and stallions, and the Milky Way (aryamṇáḥ pánthāḥ) is said to be his path.
I have been lucky enough to be in remote places where the magic of the heavens shines bright. I have always been mesmerized by the Milky Way.
This artwork is a precious part of the research I am doing to develop the international creative storytelling project: the WEIRDrpg. The setting, characters, and conflicts are inspired by folk lore, myths, and legends from around the world. The story is a parable for modern life. It focuses on Wisdom and Empathy, and how we can learn to make wise choices to create a better world.
